How might we create a gardening tool to assist with planting from a standing position?

The above question guided the group project focused on creating a hypothetical gardening tool for a client, along with branding from prechosen criteria.

Clientele:

- 60+ year olds

Branding must be derived from the words:

- Striped
- Annoying
- Threatening

Contributions to the project:

- Interviewing candidates to gather information about gardening, pain points, and best practices

- Market research for gardening tools, and objects in the industry

- Synthesizing research to arrive at a more specified objective

- Rigorous sketching for visualizing potential solutions

- Utilization of various democratic materials to create high fidelity prototypes for user testing

- Material sourcing (wood, PVC, foam)

- Utilization of various power tools to manipulate sourced materials to create a physical 3D model

- Creation of a mold used for steam bending wood

- Painting/finishing wood, PVC, high density foam

- Graphic design for display of finished project

Stinger was selected by faculty to be displayed in Iowa State University’s College of Design building upon completion.
